What is long term care?

Long term care includes care, support, and other services provided to a person who requires help with daily activities or supervision for a long time (a period expected to last at least 90 days or more).

It includes the assistance needed with everyday activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, eating, dressing, continence, toileting, or moving from a bed to a chair.

Why would I ever need it?

No one can predict if and when you will need long-term care, or for how long. We do know that:

  • At least 70% of people over 65 will need long-term care services at some point.(1)
  • An estimated 5.2 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s. The number of people age 65 and over with Alzheimer’s disease is estimated to reach 7.7 million in 2030. (2)
